How MINNeSTAY Became Minnesota’s Vacation Rental Authority
MINNeSTAY began in 2017 with a simple idea: Minnesota deserved a higher standard of vacation rentals. Hotels weren’t always the right fit, and many short-term rentals felt inconsistent, impersonal, or managed from far away. We saw an opportunity to create something better, locally rooted hospitality that combined the comfort of home with the polish of a boutique hotel.
Starting with just a handful of properties in the Twin Cities, we focused on doing a few things exceptionally well:
Caring for each home as if it were our own, treating every guest like a VIP, and being the kind of property manager owners could truly trust. Word spread quickly across Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surrounding metro, and MINNeSTAY began to grow.
As our portfolio expanded from city condos and North Loop apartments to family homes near the lakes, luxury estates, and Minnesota lake cabins, so did our standards. We invested in better systems, local teams, and hands-on support so that guests would have seamless stays and owners could step back from the day-to-day stress of managing a vacation rental.
Along the way, the industry started to take notice. MINNeSTAY has been honored with the Minnesota’s Best Gold Award for Vacation Rentals five years in a row (2021–2025), recognition for Pet-Friendly Accommodations, Property Management, and Family Getaways, and national Comparents Market Leader Awards naming us among the top 1% of vacation rental managers in the United States. For us, these awards aren’t just trophies, they’re validation that a Minnesota- born, locally operated company can set the standard in our own backyard and across the country. About Our Founder
Lance Bondhus, has extensive experience in providing high-end customer service. Catering to the rich and famous as Captain of Mega Yachts for over 18 years, he brings the same level of service and expertise to the vacation rental market.
Lance left his career in the yacht industry in order to be present for his two boys. Now, he spends his time in his home state of Minnesota, and he has redirected his expertise and focused all his energy on transferring his entrepreneurial and innovative skillset into Minnesota's vacation rental industry.
Lance also formed the MNVRA (Minnesota Vacation Rental Alliance). The main purpose of the organization is to form an alliance with other vacation rental owners to lobby politicians within the state or local governments in Minnesota to create beneficial, meaningful, and clear regulations on home sharing and short-term rentals, as none currently exist within municipal codes. The MNVRA currently has 196 members and counting. The organization's goal is to become actively involved with the government and to look out for the best interests of homeowners and the growing vacation rental industry.
